The new administration building is intended to become a dominant architectural feature of the proposed multi-functional buildings in Prague-Vysočany. It is a project that will start a transformation of the entire area once occupied by the former Českomoravská Kolben-Daněk (ČKD) engineering company.
Helika’s architects had a demanding task to provide several alternatives for the proposed development to the client for assessment. The adopted alternative features a dynamic rectangular composition of several vertical structures invoking visual associations with the industrial history of the area. The new high-rise structure, which will dominate this part of Prague, is situated near Kolbenova Street close to the Prague Metro station of the same name. In plan the administrative building was designed to make a maximum use of the site area available. The close vicinity of the existing Metro line required a special approach to the design of load-bearing structure of the building – the three-storey section of the building is cantilevered over the underground Metro line lying directly below, which gives the whole building an attractive dynamic appearance.
The architectural design concept for the building was developed by Helika’s architects in close cooperation with the future user of the building who insisted on the maximum spatial economy of the design and the strict compliance with the highest ergonomic and health standards applicable to administration buildings.
